Oaxaca is like immersing oneself in palimpsest - every vertical surface is a patina of paint, layers of plaster, and papered graphics. It is a celebration of colour, texture, mark-making, and personal statement which inspires my ceramic practice. My photos of Oaxacan walls are printed on aluminium sheets to maximize the vibrancy and reflectiveness of the Mexican sun, and my accompanying pottery pieces evoke the texture, layers, colour and Oaxaca’s traditional architecture and clayworks.
