Gail White

I have always been called “creative”. I applied my imagination to gardening, cooking, crafting and (after retiring from a high-stress corporate career) to art.  I have been painting actively for about 15 years as well as creating reversible necklace using buttons.  I believe in continuous learning and work at that everyday in one way or another.

Statement

“Cross Cultures” depicts what I think of as “newcomers”, and “original land owner”, connected by all that surrounds them, and an ever-present “eye-in-the-sky”. “Origen” stories often vary depending on who tells the story- most often when the “victors” write history.  In this piece, I imagined a time when the “newcomers” arrived and planted their flag to claim ownership, but they were without eyes to see their impact.  The “original land owner” was friendly, and living in a world with fruit, flowers and music, and could see clearly what was coming.  Their cultures crossed paths, sometimes in harmony and other times not.
